Our mission is to build a resilient, disciplined, and performance-driven mining company that operates with an owner's mentality — moving with conviction, thinking long-term, and executing with precision.
Our vision is to build the next generation of mining — a nimble, owner-driven company that scales into an intermediate, multi-asset producer through resilience, precision, and an unrelenting focus on performance and zero harm.
Hemlo actively engages with local communities such as the town of Marathon, Manitouwadge, and White River, as well as our two First Nations, Biigtigong Nishnaabeg and Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg, providing employment, community contributions, and supporting local procurement.
A formal Grievance and Resolution Procedure is in place, with concerns logged and tracked through the Community Relations Management System. Communities of Interest are informed of the process and how to submit grievances.
Since 2008, we have maintained formal Benefits Agreements with Biigtigong Nishnaabeg (Pic River First Nation) and Netmizaaggamig Nishnaabeg (Pic Mobert First Nation), ensuring ongoing collaboration, transparency, and shared stewardship of the Hemlo region.
Our agreements are designed to deliver meaningful economic and social benefits to partner Nations, supporting local employment, business opportunities, and community development initiatives — helping ensure responsible development aligned with community expectations and regional priorities.
In continuous operation since 1985, the Williams Mine adjusts its development plans to evolving best practices by submitting applications for pit expansions, operational changes, and mine life extensions, ensuring environmental compliance at every stage.
Comprehensive environmental studies — including flora and fauna surveys, hydrogeological analyses, and waste rock characterizations — are routinely conducted to assess, manage, and minimize the mine's environmental footprint.
Hemlo operates under a robust Environmental Management System and maintains detailed Mine Closure Plans with full financial assurance, ensuring long-term site rehabilitation and environmental restoration upon mine closure.
We operate under an Energy & Carbon Management Plan aligned with ISO 14001, the Mining Association of Canada's Toward Sustainable Mining (TSM) Climate Change Protocol, and the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) guidance.
Our focus is reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, monitoring Scope 3, establishing clear baselines and KPIs, and advancing towards energy and emissions reduction. An integrated Energy & GHG Tool tracks energy consumption, cost, emissions, and significant energy users across the mine — supporting transparent reporting, continuous improvement, and informed decision-making.
