Our innovations
At BASF, digitalization isn't just a concept; it's a hands-on experience that we live through practical work and innovative solutions. Our commitment to digital transformation is reflected in the way we empower our teams to actively engage with cutting-edge technologies and develop real-world applications that drive efficiency and growth, and where virtual modelling and simulations on the computer go hand in hand with real experiments at the lab bench.
- Our supercomputer Quriosity enables us to work efficiently on complex issues and shorten the time to market for new products.
- In automotive coatings, we leverage real-time data from our customers' paint lines to optimally adjust colour shades to meet specific needs, ensuring that every car has the perfect hue.
- Our "Predictive Maintenance" application uses sensors to gather live data on operating states in our production sites, which we evaluate alongside historical process data to predict the functional status of critical plant components.
- The Maglis™ online platform intelligently connects data, technologies, and people, helping farms grow smarter, market their yields better, and achieve greater success.
- xarvio™ Digital Farming Solutions provides targeted, field-specific agronomic advice to help farmers maximize crop production efficiently while promoting sustainable agriculture.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a key measure of the strategic lever in the BASF Strategy. BASF began its journey to an AI-powered future more than ten years ago by exploring the possibilities and benefits of machine learning models. Leveraging BASF's size and unique data pool, we are implementing AI across the company to create value. We focus on broad adoption of everyday AI tools, push scalable AI value cases in all domains and drive AI innovations to translate the latest AI developments into tangible solutions.
- In manufacturing, for example, we use AI to harness the predictive power of thousands of sensors in our manufacturing facilities to detect anomalies that affect our production capability. Mobile robots support inspections, and an AI-powered chatbot for production plants makes plant-specific know-how available in real time.
- Artificial intelligence and machine learning are also part of the general tools of the trade in research and development be it in the prediction of new molecules and materials and their properties, in the evaluation of image data and texts, or in the automation of research laboratories.
